Fast and efficient idea validation in early phases

"Idea validation is successful if the idea contributors as well as relevant stakeholders and customers are involved in the process early on." This is one of the most important learnings from our last Innovation Management Circle. Patrick Tomczak, Senior Director & Head of Digital Campus of KION GROUP, gave an insight into how efficient idea validation works in the early stages. The submitted ideas go through a defined process in several steps, which results in the concrete decision which ideas to pursue at what point in time. This was followed by an impulse from Mito Mihelic, Head of Design Strategy in the Maschinenraum, in which the participants were guided through a co-creation playbook and shared concrete experiences from ideation workshops with medium-sized companies in the Maschinenraum and with Viessmann. In break-out sessions, the participants from our member companies discussed, among other things, the importance of an open corporate culture for lived innovation, how the use of personas in the process of idea validation and anchoring in the company helps and how standardized criteria in the evaluation of ideas lead to comparable and fair results. Many thanks to all participants for the open exchange!
