ALBA Group becomes part of the Maschinenraum innovation ecosystem

Press release I 24.08.2021

Berlin

ALBA Group (https://www.alba.info/), one of the world's leading recycling and environmental service providers, will become part of Maschinenraum (https://maschinenraum.io/de) through its subsidiary ALBA Services Holding GmbH. Maschinenraum, an alliance consisting of more than 30 family and Mittelstand businesses as well as university partners and other innovators, is working together on the digital transformation of German Mittelstand. ALBA Group wants to use the exchange with other members of Maschinenraum to share ideas on how to deal with challenges in sustainability strategies, digitalisation and recruiting.

ALBA Group is active in Germany and Europe as well as in Asia with its two brands ALBA and Interseroh. In 2020, its business units generated a turnover of EUR 1.9 billion and employed a total of around 8,700 people. This makes ALBA Group one of the leading recycling and environmental service providers and raw materials suppliers worldwide. ALBA Group's recycling activities saved more than 4.2 million tonnes of greenhouse gases compared to primary production and 32.3 million tonnes of primary raw materials in 2019 alone.

Every year, the companies of ALBA Group market around 5.8 million tonnes of raw materials and cover the entire range of environmental services: from advice on disposal issues to the licensing of packaging in the market of the so-called dual systems, the offer of reliable recycling solutions and state-of-the-art sorting technology to innovative logistics and product development.

Circular Economy – for a world without waste

"The digital transformation of our economy and society is also changing the waste management and recycling industry – and thus the circular economy," says Alexander Maak, Head of Business Development and Innovation & Project Management. "Therefore, innovation topics are of course also of essential importance to us. The fact that there is now also a 'Sustainability Circle' at Maschinenraum, in which all interested companies can directly exchange experiences on sustainability topics, is extremely valuable and we expect a lot from it."

ALBA Group's corporate vision is: a world without waste. "As sustainable as our vision and our business model are, we also want to develop sustainably as a company. In order to achieve this, we are currently focusing on the topics of digitalisation and recruiting. We are accordingly looking forward to the impulses from Maschinenraum and especially to the exchange with medium-sized companies and other family businesses that have already successfully mastered challenges in precisely this area," Maak continues.

"As a shared innovation ecosystem from German Mittelstand for German Mittelstand, we offer the ideal environment to mutually benefit in a familiar exchange. With the topic of the circular economy and its associated vision of a world without waste, ALBA Group is advancing an essentially important topic of our time. I am convinced that the connection to Maschinenraum community will provide the right impetus to successfully position the company for the future – also beyond the topic of sustainability," says Tobias Rappers, Managing Director of Maschinenraum.
