Episode notes

When the car manufacturer Tesla decided to put a factory in the Berlin area, its boss Elon Musk chose a German family business for the first part of the construction: Goldbeck, best known for its Lego principle, which allows buildings to be expanded quickly and very flexibly. Elon Musk is very project-driven. He's not a small talk person, Jan-Hendrik Goldbeck, CEO of the company, tells the podcast Alles neu...? Aus dem Maschinenraum. The first question is: How can we make things faster? And really, that's what it's all about. For him, the Tesla construction is a project where a company can learn a lot, but also one where Goldbeck's decades-old concept has proven itself: approaching construction projects with a lot of know-how, planning and technical preparation in such a way that they can be implemented more quickly in the end. It is basically a disruptive principle, even if it was not called that when it was created. For Goldbeck, digitalisation is therefore a penalty kick without a goalkeeper: We have a system. And a system is nothing more than a concatenation of if-then states, just like a computer, says Goldbeck. He talks about his team in Silicon Valley, his experiences with Elon Musk and the question of why his company was overrun with orders in the pandemic in the podcast – with Tobias Rappers, Managing Director of Maschinenraum and Capital editor Nils Kreimeier.
