Episode Description
The Coatinc Company is a record-breaking company. The surface finisher from Siegen can score points especially in terms of age: Coatinc is the oldest family-owned company in Germany - with origins dating back to 1502. Of course, such a ranking, published by the Family Business Foundation, is also super for raising awareness, says Paul Niederstein, who is the 17th generation to run the company, in the podcast "Alles neu...? Aus dem Maschinenraum". Customers and suppliers are always talking to the 47-year-old about the long tradition. "And with a tight budget, that is of course quite advantageous." On a day-to-day basis, however, the entrepreneur is preoccupied with completely different questions: How can a corporate culture be developed in an age-old company that is more strongly geared toward innovation? How great is the danger that steel, the material Coatinc specializes in processing, will be replaced by other materials in the medium term? "No one wants to run the cart into the wall - whether it's first or 17th generation," says Niederstein. It's a thought that is also central to him because the company was once on the verge of going out of business in the 1970s - long before its time. Also to understand where Coatinc needs to change, Niederstein, who has experience in the steel industry, took a trip through the company's departments and talked to as many employees as possible. He tells us why his father couldn't do anything with the company's new name, what serious decision he has already made, and where his favorite jogging route is. In the podcast - with Tobias Rappers, Managing Director of Maschinenraum and Capital editor Nils Kreimeier.
