Episode Description

Duravit is a brand that people encounter often, namely especially when they enter a bathroom. The over 200-year-old manufacturer of bathroom furniture and sanitary ceramics has managed over time to take a firm place in the industry with modern variants and new functions. Continuing that into the future is not always easy, as demands change and so does the way industrial design is created. "The era of iconic designers is coming to an end," says Stephan Tahy, CEO of Duravit, in the podcast "Alles neu...? Aus dem Maschinenraum." Instead, he says, work is increasingly being done in teams and in collaborations with other companies. Tahy also wants to promote a culture in his own company in which the development of innovations moves forward. "We're seeing the first teams of designers forming. And we are exploring how we can become part of that. We want to be an active part of that process," he says. To develop new functions in the bathroom, Duravit is specifically expanding its collaboration with startups, which often have better access to the end customer. "We also use startups to uncover our blind spots," says Tahy, who announces the first concrete results of this cooperation for 2024. "I expect a lot from it." Tahy explains why shower trays will soon be recyclable, why the bathroom is the most important room in the house and in which city he has seen the most beautiful bathroom. In the podcast - with Tobias Rappers, managing director of Maschinenraum and Capital editor Nils Kreimeier.
