Episode Description
It's a question facing many German family businesses: What if you have a product that works and a business model that runs well - and yet it's clear that something has to change? "Even companies like ours that are accustomed to success have to change," says Dr. Philipp Dehn, head of lightning protection supplier DEHN, in the podcast "Alles neu...? aus dem Maschinenraum" - this time in a recording with an audience at the midmarket conference Maschinenraum Momentum. "We're not going to make sneakers tomorrow. But we're in the security megatrend - and that offers a lot of opportunity to grow." The basic idea is to embrace the idea of safety more broadly than just with a product like the lightning rod. Behind this is the path from product to solution provider that many companies want to take. That this is not always easy is shown by the cooperation with a startup that did not work out from Dehn's point of view - but where the entrepreneur learned a lot. "We didn't partner with others the way we should have. We thought we could do it ourselves," says Dehn, who draws a simple conclusion for himself: "Fall down, fix your crown, carry on." The family entrepreneur talks about employee shared flats, the difficult search for IT specialists and the question of whether you actually need a strategy paper - in the podcast - with Tobias Rappers, Managing Director of Maschinenraum and Capital editor Nils Kreimeier.
