EPISODE DESCRIPTION
It has been a long time since German companies have started a new year in such poor conditions: The economy is stagnating, energy prices are high, wars are putting a strain on supply chains and the ruling coalition is charting an unclear course in the view of many. The podcast "Alles Neu…? Aus dem Maschinenraum" takes this as an opportunity to talk to three representatives of German family businesses about their view of the situation - and also about what gives them hope that 2024 will be better than many fear: Marie Langer from 3D printing company Eos, Frank Stührenberg from electrical engineering producer Phoenix Contact and Angelique Renkhoff-Mücke, head of sun protection provider Warema. All three are calling for politicians to give them more room to breathe and less bureaucracy. "Give us room to do things," says Stührenberg."The more compartmentalized regulation becomes, the more likely it is to become an obstacle." And Renkhoff-Mücke hopes for "clear framework conditions again. I'd like to see a hair-pulling speech again." Eos boss Langer believes that German SMEs receive too little attention in her opinion: "We see that large DAX companies are fed while family businesses are neglected." Despite all the anger and some bitterness, there is also confidence in the analyses of the three. "Companies get over crises. And that's exactly what we will do this time," says Stührenberg. And Renkhoff-Mücke is convinced: "We need to focus more on personal responsibility. Roll up our sleeves and just get on with it. If we get into this mode, then we will also get through this difficult situation." A look back at a difficult year and a cautious outlook for the new one - in the podcast - with Tobias Rappers, Managing Director of Maschinenraum and Capital editor Nils Kreimeier.
