EPISODE DESCRIPTION
From an American corporation to a German SME: Andreas Reuter took that leap. For eleven years, he has been at the helm of Schäfer Shop from Betzdorf in Rhineland-Palatinate, a full-service supplier for offices and businesses. The range includes everything from desk lamps and office chairs to clipboards. The best-known product was invented in the 1970s and can be found in almost every workshop today: The "Lager-Fix-Kasten" can be stacked and has an opening at the front. Today, Schäfer Shop employs around 1000 people and generated approximately 300 million euros in turnover in 2023. "I make decisions as if it were my company," says Andreas Reuter about his management role at Schäfer Shop. "To work in a family business, you need a certain DNA. You have to be aware of this responsibility." In the interview, the CEO talks about the dire straits the company was in when he joined and about his difficult early days. "Change always starts with me," says Andreas Reuter. He talks about the changes in the working world caused by the pandemic, the light and dark sides of working from home, what New Work means to him - and how Schäfer Shop wants to help its SME customers bring the buzzword to life. "The world of work is changing forever at the moment," says Andreas Reuter - in the podcast "Alles Neu...? Aus dem Maschinenraum" with Tobias Rappers, Managing Director of Maschinenraum, and Capital editor Katja Michel.
