Episode description
"My mother sold toilets, and I wanted to sell toilets too," Louisa Wiedemann recalls of her childhood in the family business. Today, at 28, she runs the Wiedemann Group together with her mother Barbara, representing the fourth generation. The company is based in Sarstedt, Lower Saxony, and is a wholesaler for sanitary, heating, and ventilation products. It sells air conditioning units as well as bathtubs and heating systems, with tradespeople as its customers. The building-specialist most recently generated around €400 million in revenue and employs roughly 1,200 people.
In the podcast, Louisa Wiedemann talks about, among other things, the transformation the company has recently undergone: "We used to think a lot in silos, but today we work much more as a group and within central structures," says the entrepreneur. "We need to change. We need to bring in more digitalization and more AI," Wiedemann continues.
She also talks about her first steps in the family business, working together with her mother, and her role as the boss. "I have the courage and the openness to bring people on board who have the expertise I lack." "I can't be good at everything. But I hold myself to the standard of recognizing when I can't do something, so I can get help," says Louisa Wiedemann on the podcast "Alles neu…? Aus dem Maschinenraum" with Tobias Rappers and Katja Michel.
